Mary Mapes: Behind the Camera
A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Award-Winning Journalist's Life
Mary Alice Mapes, born May 9, 1956, is an American journalist, former television news producer, and author.
Mapes made a name for herself behind the camera as an award-winning journalist. She was a principal producer for CBS News, primarily the CBS Evening News and 60 Minutes.
In 2004, Mapes produced a 60 Minutes report on President George W. Bush's National Guard record. The report was later retracted, and Mapes was fired from CBS News.
Mapes has since written a book about her experience, "Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power." In recent years, she has spoken out about the importance of journalistic ethics and the challenges facing the news media.
