Stefanos Tsitsipas to Face Carlos Alcaraz in French Open Quarter-Final Rematch
Title Overcomes Two-Set Deficit in Opener
Revenge on the Cards as Alcaraz Aims to Extend Unbeaten Record Against Tsitsipas
PARIS, June 2 (Reuters) - Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek ninth seed, overcame a slow start to defeat Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round of the French Open on Thursday, setting up a quarter-final rematch against Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz, the world number two, defeated Tsitsipas in the quarter-final stage in Paris last season and boasts a 5-0 career head-to-head record over the Greek, with three wins on clay.
Tsitsipas had a two-set lead over Novak Djokovic in the 2022 French Open final before falling to the Serbian in five sets. He will be looking to avenge that defeat and reach his first Grand Slam semi-final when he takes on Alcaraz on Tuesday.
Alcaraz, who won the Madrid Open earlier this month, has been in impressive form on clay this season. He has won 15 of his last 16 matches on the surface and is the favorite to win the French Open for the first time.
